Fernanda Terra Stori

Fernanda holds a Ph.D. (2010) and a Master's degree (2005) in Ecology and Natural Resources from the Federal University of São Carlos (Brazil). She has a Bachelor's degree in Oceanography (2000) and a specialization in Environmental Management (2003), both from the University of Vale do Itajaí (Brazil). Currently, she is conducting postdoctoral research at São Paulo State University (UNESP), affiliated with the Institute of Public Policies and International Relations (IPPRI) and the Campus of the São Paulo Coast. She is a consultant for the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO) for the inclusion of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Marine Spatial Planning. From 2019 to 2021, she worked as a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the MaREI SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate, and Marine Science at University College Cork (Ireland) on research funded by the European Regional Development Fund (INTERREG). From 2014 to 2018, she conducted postdoctoral research supported by FAPESP at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo. From 2017 to 2018, she completed an international postdoctoral fellowship at the ARC Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, James Cook University (Australia), with support from BEPE-FAPESP. Her research interests include adaptation and resilience in socio-ecological systems in coastal and marine areas. She works in the areas of Planning, Management, and Conservation of natural resources in coastal and marine zones, Climate Change Adaptation, Human Ecology and Ethnoecology, Environmental Education, Environmental Legislation, among others. From 2005 to 2014, she worked as a substitute professor at UNESP São Vicente, teaching courses such as Introduction to Coastal Management, Coastal Environmental Management, Environmental Legislation, Bioethics and Legislation, and Socio-environmental Research Methods. She has taught in postgraduate programs at University College Cork, the Oceanographic Institute of USP, University of Vale do Itajaí, Santa Cecília University, and Mackenzie Presbyterian University. She worked for 5 years in environmental public management in departments of the São Paulo State Environmental Secretariat (SMA-SP), the Guarujá Municipality, and the Forest Foundation (FF/SMA-SP), developing projects in Environmental Education, Environmental Inspection, Management of Marine Protected Areas, Coastal Management, Shoreline Management, among others. Along with with her teaching, research, and extension activities, Fernanda has been producing audiovisual content through the Terra Azul Culture and Sustainability initiative, aiming to promote scientific communication, education and environmental awareness for the sustainability of coastal-marine ecosystems.
