Birthplace: Brazil

I am a professor at the Department of Naval Architecture and Oceanic Engineering at the Escola Politécnica in the Universidade de São Paulo. Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Planktonic Systems (LAPS) of the Oceanographic Institute of USP. I worked with data analysis and numerical modeling focused on studying the relationship between environmental variables and the phytoplankton population of Todos os Santos Bay, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. I have a PhD and a Master's degree in Physical Oceanography from the University of São Paulo (USP). I graduated in Oceanography from the Oceanographic Institute of USP (IO-USP), and I did a 1-year and 3-month exchange program at Bangor University, in the United Kingdom (Wales).Throughout my academic career, I actively participated in research, cultural, and extension projects, as well as tutoring and the Research, Culture, and Extension Committees at IO-USP. My final project was on the influence of mode water on nutrient variability in the South Atlantic. During my master's degree, I specialized in numerical modeling, data analysis, and hydrodynamics of the continental and coastal shelf, with the study of sewage pollution from submarine outfalls in the São Sebastião channel (SP). During my PhD, I deepened my studies in coastal and estuarine physical oceanography, with an emphasis on estuarine hydrodynamics and particle dispersion on the coast and the Continental Shelf. My work analyzed water flow, particle transport and dispersion, and estuarine residence time. I investigated several scenarios of climate change and extreme events, such as storm surges and atmospheric blocking, under the influence of river discharge variability. I developed multiple linear regression models to predict the flow of a river basin from precipitation. I have international experience with cloud computing, APIs, and Google Cloud, acquired during my work as a data extraction and analysis specialist. I am interested in machine learning applications focused on the environmental area, especially in the development of predictive models for oceanographic phenomena and climate change. My research involves ocean monitoring, naval and oceanic instrumentation, and numerical modelling. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
