Rita de Cássia holds a degree in Biology (Unesp) and a Master's degree in Cellular Biology from the Department of Biochemistry at the State University of Maringá. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the Department of Biochemistry of the Chemistry Institute of the University of São Paulo (São Paulo, SP - Brazil), where she also completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship on functional genomics of genes related to heat shock stress and other periplasmic stresses in Caulobacter crescentus. In 2011, she conducted a senior postdoctoral project at the University of Florida (Microbiology and Cell Science Department - Biotechnology for Chemical and Biofuel), focusing on precision fermentation in bacteria. She is currently a professor and researcher at the Center for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Unioeste (Cascavel, Brazil), developing research focused on Industry, Health and Environment through Biochemistry and Molecular Biology approaches applied to model microorganisms (C. crescentus, E. coli, SARS-CoV-2, ESKAPEE bacteria) and isolates from Brazilian biodiversity (filamentous fungi, yeasts of medical and industrial relevance and oncogenic HPV).
