Dr. Hoffmann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Experimental Nutrition at the University of São Paulo. He earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the Federal University of Goiás, conducting his doctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Frederic Bushman at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for 10 years as a researcher in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvanias Perelman School of Medicine. He also spent time as a visiting scientist at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and at the University of Vienna as a fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and has been a visiting professor at ETH Zurich. He has experience with diverse microbial systems, including soils, microbial mats, and, for the past 15 years, has focused on human and other host-associated microbiomes. His research interests center on the interactions between microbiome functions in health and disease, and how these are modulated by diet and the immune system. He is also an Associate Researcher at the FAPESP-funded Food Research Center (FoRC) and a collaborating researcher at the Laboratory of Applied Immunology at the University of Brasília. He currently holds a CNPq Productivity in Research Fellowship (Level C). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
