Marcelo Denny de Toledo Leite

Stage director, scenography, professor, plastic artist, performer, searcher,curator and art director, with a master?s degree and doctorate in art by the Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (The School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo - ECA/USP), where he has been teaching for 18 years. Developing researches about visibility, body and performativity, performance, urban performance and the contemporary scene. One of the founders of the theatrical groups ?Cia Teatral ?Cadê Otelo???, ?Desvio Coletivo?, ?Cia Sylvia Que Te Ama Tanto? and ?Teatro da Pomba Gira - Coletivo de Criadores?, where he acted as a director and scenography in more than 20 shows, having won more than 30 awards on theater festivals across Brazil. He acted as a curator and jury on many theater festivals across the country. Winner of the special award in the Festival Mix Brasil 2016 and the ProAC Manifestações Culturais com Temática LGBT 2017, from the Secretary of Culture from the State of São Paulo. Was invited as a professor to teach classes and give speeches about themes related to his researches in some establishments across Brazil, such as: Yázigi Internexus, Faculdade Paulista de Artes, SP Escola de Teatro, UNESP, Escola SP Centro de formação das artes do palco, Escola São Paulo de Cultura Contemporânea, Anhembi Morumbi (SP), UNIBAM (SP), FPA-Faculdade Paulista de Artes (SP), Universidade Livre de Artes de São José do Rio Preto (SP), Centro Universitário Belas Artes (SP), UFRN-Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Universidade São Judas (SP), UNIRIO- Universidade do Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Centro Cultural São Paulo e Galeria Olido (SP). He was chosen as one of the Brazilian representatives in The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2007, in Czech Republic. In the last years he taught and participated on performances in the institutions: SESC e SENAI (Brazil), AKT-ZENT- Research Centre of the Theatre Education & Training and on Volksbuhne Theatre in Berlin (Germany), Grupo Dançando com a Diferença in Funchal - Ilha da Madeira (Portugal). He was a judge and panelist in the Primer Festival de Body Painting in Argentina, on the city of La Plata; he was one of the representatives and exposing artists from Brazil on the The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2015 (Czech Republic), and also one of the representatives of Brazil on IFTR- International Federation for Theatre Research meeting that happened on Stockholm in Sweden, in 2016. He has presented innumerous curses about contemporary scenic visibility and performances on scene in the following universities across the world: Universidad de Chile, Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán em Mérida (Mexico), Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema de Lisboa, (Portugal) , Institut del Theatre em Barcelona (Spain), Universiteit van Amsterdam (Netherlands),Universidad de Mérida (Argentina), Universidad de San José (Costa Rica), Université Paris 8 - Saint-Denis em Paris (France), Taipei University of Arts (Taiwan) e no The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics da New York University (USA). Currently he is the head of the department of the Artes Cênicas da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (The School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo - ECA/USP), where he also teaches the following classes: Scenography, Makeup & Characterization, Direction IV and Performative Practices. He is also a professor for the program of graduate studies on PPGAC - Programa de Pós-Graduação da ECA/USP, where he acts as a master?s advisor. He is also one of the founders and directors of the Laboratório de Práticas Performativas da ECA/USP (Laboratory of Performative Practices), his research group that has been active since 2010.
