Birthplace: Brazil

Prof. Dr. Regina Affonso, Researcher, graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) (1989), PhD in Sciences in the Area of #8203;#8203;Nuclear Technology-Applications from the Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research (IPEN) (2000), and Post-doctorate in Structural Biology from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) (2005), currently is a Senior Researcher at IPEN. She is an ordinary member of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq) and the Brazilian Society of Nuclear Biosciences (SBBN). She has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Biochemistry, with emphasis on Peptides; in the area of #8203;#8203;Molecular Biology, with the techniques: RNA extraction, RT-PCR, PCR, cloning, expression, and purification of recombinant human proteins (*); in the structural area in Circular Dichroism, Fluorescence and Crystallography tests. In the area of #8203;#8203;radiation - studies the biological effects of gamma radiation, in low doses, on the differentiation of osteoblasts; and in waste produced in the Goiania accident with Cesium 137 (1987). Currently, his main line of research is the synthesis of peptides from the angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE1) with catalytic activity and the angiotensin 2 enzyme (ACE2) with inhibitory properties against SARS-CoV-2; and the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on osteoblast cultures.(*Guide to Practices in Molecular Biology - 2nd Ed. 2015 - Cristina Valleta de Carvalho, Giannina Ricci, Regina Affonso) (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
