Researcher at the University of São Paulos School of Medicine, focusing on the state-of-the-art research on eating disorders in Brazil and bibliometric studies. His most recent publication is a landmark investigative study on the national landscape of eating disorders in Brazil, published in The Lancet Americas and titled "Brazil has a problem: therapeutic itinerary, research, and data about eating disorders." He holds a specialization in People Management (ESALQ-USP), where he explored workplace harassment in academia and its impact on motivation, satisfaction, and organizational climate. Jônatas holds a Master's degree in Science from FMUSP and a degree in Nutrition from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). During his undergraduate studies, he spent three years conducting research at the Laboratory of Neurochemistry and Behavior (LNC-UNIFESP), where he completed two scientific research projects. The first focused on an animal model of binge eating (FAPESP-funded; Grant: 15/11271-0), analyzing compulsive eating behavior, decision-making, and anxiety in behavioral tests. The second involved screening for eating disorders in a non-clinical population, alongside contributions to other LNC-UNIFESP research projects. In 2016, he was awarded the Young Neuroscientist Award by the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC). He initially pursued a Master's in Morphofunctional Sciences at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (USP) but discontinued in April 2017 (FAPESP-funded) to transition to clinical research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Hospital das Clínicas (IPq-HCFMUSP). In 2018, he completed the Advanced Training in Eating Disorders at the Eating Disorders Program (AMBULIM-IPq-HCFMUSP). His primary research focuses on Food Craving, particularly its characterization, relationship with disordered eating behaviors, and nutritional treatment. His recent interests include person-centered, co-produced, comparative, and transdisciplinary research, employing qualitative, quantitative, mixed, and applied methodologies. He is a regular contributor to Jornal da USP and Veja Saúde and serves as a peer reviewer for multiple international journals, including Frontiers in Psychology (Cognitive Science and Eating Behavior sections), Eating and Weight Disorders, Frontiers in Psychiatry, Eating Behaviors, Journal of Eating Disorders, BMC Women's Health, Stress and Health, Behavior Therapy, and L'Encéphale. Jônatas is a member of the Brazilian Association for Evidence-Based Psychology (ABPBE) and a student at the Evidence-Based Psychology Study Group at Mackenzie University (São Paulo). He is also part of the faculty for the Specialization in Eating Behaviors and Disorders at INADES, as well as the Specialization in Obesity and Weight Management and the Postgraduate Program in Psychiatry at SANAR.
