Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). From June 2018 to May 2019, he served as Substitute Associate Professor and Head of the Discipline of Alcohol, Drugs, and Public Policies in the same department, where he also acts as Permanent Supervisor in the Postgraduate Program in Psychiatry and Medical Psychology. He graduated as a medical doctor from UNIFESP in 2007, completed his Medical Residency in Psychiatry in 2011, and earned a Ph.D. in Sciences in 2014, all at the same institution. He undertook postdoctoral training at the Mailman School of Public Health - Columbia University in 2017.In 2014, he represented Latin America at the Experts Seminar on Harm Reduction and Stimulants Use, and in 2017, he was globally selected by the American Psychiatric Association for the Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators. In 2022, he was chosen for the Young Medical Leaders program of the National Academy of Medicine. In 2023, he was selected for the Young Physician Leaders program of the Interacademies Partnership for Health, nominated by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine.Since 2018, he has been the coordinator of the General Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic at the Department of Psychiatry at UNIFESP. He also serves as the coordinator of the Program for Guidance and Assistance to Dependents (PROAD) in the same department. Since 2021, he has been the Coordinator of the Psychiatry Medical Residency Program at UNIFESP. He is a counselor for the State Council on Drug Policies (CONED-SP). From 2020 to 2023, he was a member of the Technical Chamber of Psychiatry of CREMESP. He is a preceptor for psychiatry residents at UNIFESP, Santa Marcelina Hospital, SUS Mauá, and SUS of the Municipality of São Paulo, as well as the coordinator of the Academic League of Substance Dependence.From 2017 to 2022, at the invitation of the Pro-Rectorate of Student Affairs (PRAE), he delivered the inaugural lecture for first-year students at the São Paulo campus of UNIFESP, addressing issues related to psychoactive substance use. He provides technical consultancy to organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Health Department of the Municipality of São Paulo, and the Indigenous Health Department of the Ministry of Health. He is also a founding member of the Brazilian Multiprofessional Association for Drug Studies (ABRAMD), a member of the American Psychiatric Association (where he received the title of Distinguished Fellow in May 2018), a Regular Member of the College on Drug and Alcohol Dependence (where he serves on the International Committee), and a member of the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology.He serves as a reviewer for various international journals and was Junior Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry from 2017 to 2020, becoming an Associate Editor in 2020. He has authored scientific articles and book chapters in the field of Psychiatry and Substance Dependence and is a frequent spokesperson with the media. He has received several awards for his scientific work throughout his career. He actively collaborates with researchers from Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Toronto, Washington University, the University of Mississippi, as well as researchers from other universities in Brazil (USP, UNICAMP, UFRJ, and UFRO). His expertise lies in the areas of Psychiatry and Public Health, with a focus on Substance Dependence, Epidemiology, Diagnostic and Screening Instruments, and Social Vulnerability.
