Odir Dellagostin is a veterinarian who graduated from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) in 1989. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Surrey, UK (1995), where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship (1997). A professor at UFPel since 1997, he has been a level 1A researcher with the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) since 2007. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (since 2019) and of The World Academy of Sciences TWAS (since 2024). His research focuses on Molecular Biology, with an emphasis on the development of recombinant vaccines. He has published over 260 scientific articles and supervised more than 60 master's and doctoral theses. He has held key positions in the Brazilian science, technology, and innovation system, including Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies at UFPel, member of the CNPq Veterinary Medicine Advisory Committee, Coordinator of the Biotechnology Area at CAPES, and member of the CAPES Scientific and Technical Council (20142018). He served as President of CONFAP the National Council of State Research Funding Agencies (20202025), during which he was also a member of the National Council for Science and Technology and the CNPq Deliberative Council. He currently serves as President of FAPERGS the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE).
