Birthplace: Brazil

He holds postdoctoral degrees in Structural Engineering from the Forest Innovation and Competence Center at the University of Coimbra (SERQ - UC), in Physics, Statistics, Materials Engineering, and Structural Engineering from the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), at the Ilha Solteira and Rio Claro campuses. Additionally, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Structural Engineering at the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC), University of São Paulo (USP), and another in Materials Engineering and Science at the Faculty of Animal Science and Food Engineering (FZEA/USP). He earned a Ph.D. and a Masters degree in Structural Engineering from EESC/USP, a specialisation in Pure and Applied Mathematics from UNESP Rio Claro, and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Franca (UNIFRAN). He is the author and co-author of over 670 papers published in scientific journals, including Nature Reviews Materials (JCR = 79.80), and more than 200 full papers in national and international conference proceedings. He has participated in over 30 national and international scientific events and co-authored more than 25 books covering topics such as Solid Mechanics, Numerical Methods, Timber, Timber Structures (including bridges), and Lignocellulosic Waste-Based Composite Materials. He serves as a reviewer for over 30 scientific journals, including Scientific Reports (Nature), and is the section editor for Rural Constructions and Environment at Revista Engenharia Agrícola (EAgri - SBEA) and an area editor (Engineering I) for Princípia. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Research Updates in Polymer Science. He coordinates ongoing research projects in collaboration with various companies, including Sindusmad, Greenplac, Kehl Polymers, STWood, Imperveg, and Vale do Cedro (thermally treated wood). He is also involved in several independent research projects funded by research agencies such as CNPq and FAPESP. Furthermore, he acts as an ad hoc reviewer for research proposals submitted to FAPESP, FAPEAL, and FAPEG and maintains strong research collaborations with the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and the University of Cantabria (Spain). He was honoured with his name on the Academic Centre of the Civil Engineering programme at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT, Sinop/MT). He served as an interim professor at UNEMAT and later as a visiting professor at the same institution, teaching various courses in Civil Engineering. He was appointed through competitive selection for positions in Linear Algebra, Differential and Integral Calculus, and Analytical Geometry at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT, Sinop/MT), as well as for the Strength of Materials position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ/MG). He was also selected for the Structural Mechanics position in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), where he currently teaches. At UFSCar, he supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students (Masters and Ph.D. - PPGECiv) and oversees postdoctoral research fellowships. He is also a faculty member in the Postgraduate Programme in Civil Engineering (PPGEC) at UNESP, Ilha Solteira campus. He has organised numerous technical and scientific events, including the Regional Meeting on Applied and Computational Mathematics (ERMAC), sponsored by the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics (SBMAC), and the National Congress of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (CONEMI). His research focuses on the numerical modelling of timber structures, including timber-concrete composite structures, fire performance, connections and wood based materials. He also works with composite materials, wood characterisation, structural optimisation and statistical modelling. He has 5,839 citations, with an h-index of 34 and an i10-index of 179.
