Mônica Appezzato Pinazza graduated in Psychology from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas/SP with diploma of teaching qualification (1978) and Bacharel Degree (1979). She obtained a MA in Education (1989) and a PhD (1989) at the University of São Paulo (USP). She is a professor and researcher in the field of Education, with a particular focus on Didactics and Teachers Training at the Department of Teaching Methodology and Comparative Education at the Faculty of Education, University of São Paulo. Her interests centre on teaching theories, pedagogical practices, training of professionals working in early childhood education, theories related to institutional and teaching staff cultures and practices of supervision in educational contexts. Together with Municipal schools in São Paulo and the Faculty of Education at USP, she develops and supervises a research project entitled Integrated Contexts of Early Childhood Education. Between 2005-2008, she undertook a research project entitled Childhood Project: Teaching Training, Research and Innovation as part of the International Cooperation Programme CAPES/GRICES (Brazil/Portugal). She has also participated in a number of international programmes such as Pen Green Centre (Corby, UK) and ParmaInfanzia (University of Parma, Parma, Italy). In August 2009, she was nominated Brazils Country Coordinator of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA). Between 2010-2011, she was invited to work as a visiting researcher on the Project of Development of Pedagogy-in- Participation funded by Aga Khan Fundation and Child Association (Portugal). She is current involved in the project International Cooperation in Training of Professionals Working in Health (Maputo, Mozambique), which is supported by Mozambiques Ministry of Health, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Faculty of Education, University of São Paulo.
