Graduated from the School of Medicine of USP - São Paulo (1976) and PhD in Cardiology from USP (1989). He is currently an associate professor of cardiology at USP (since 2002-) and director of the Chronic Coronary Disease Unit at InCor. He was a member of the department council (2012-2018) and of the faculty evaluation committee of the Department of Cardiopneumology. He is a member of the postgraduate committee - cardiology discipline of the School of Medicine of USP (2010-). He coordinates the Cardiovascular Physiology Discipline of the 2nd year of the School, and works as a professor in two other disciplines of the 3rd and 4th years. He was president of the Cardiology Society of the State of São Paulo (SOCESP) - Regional of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (2010-11). He has experience in Medicine, with emphasis on Cardiology, working mainly on the following topics: coffee and health, coronary atherosclerotic disease, coronary disease, angina pectoris. He has coordinated international studies on the use of drugs in cardiology. He has more than 185 publication published in national and international journals of cardiology and medicine, 51 book chapters written and four books edited. He has an h index of 22. Scopus 26.
