Helen Alves Penha

Currently, I am a Substitute Professor at UNESP/FCAV, where I teach Cellular Biology. I have a solid experience in plant, animal, and microorganism genetics, more specifically in the following sub-areas and techniques: molecular genetics, molecular markers, construction of genomic libraries (SSRs and BACs), chromatography, molecular cytogenetics, transcriptomics, random mutagenesis, and functional genomics. I hold a Bachelor's and Teaching degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Londrina (2001-2005), a master's degree in Agronomy (Genetics and Plant Breeding - 2006-2008), and a Ph.D. in Sciences (Genetics and Plant Breeding - 2008-2012) from the University of São Paulo, 'Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture' - USP/ESALQ, with periods at the Centre National de Ressources Genomiques Vegetales - Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (CNRGV-INRA) (2009-2010), Toulouse, France, and the Plant Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Federal University of Pernambuco (2011). I worked as a Tutor and Educator at USP/UNIVESP (2012-2014) and as a Tenured Professor at São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Jaboticabal FCAV/UNESP (2019) and Faculty of Technology "Nilo De Stéfani - FATEC (2019-2020), both in various disciplines. I also worked as a Researcher under the National Postdoctoral Program (PNPD/CAPES) at FCAV/UNESP (2014-2019) in the area of functional genomics of citrus canker and worked as a researcher in the Mitochondrial Biology Laboratory at FCAV/UNESP. I collaborated at the Inprenha Biotechnology company, where I worked on downstream processes of biotechnological production. In my career, I have published, to date, 16 international scientific articles in high-impact journals, cited 248 times, a book chapter, and 40 papers at national and international congresses. I have an H-Index: 9. I actively collaborated on 6 Research projects, supervised 3 master's students, and 8 undergraduate students. I have experience in teaching courses and lectures, organizing events, writing technical reports and projects for fundraising, experience in research and development management, and training in Good Laboratory Practices.As a mother of a daughter, I was on maternity leave from January to April 2017.
