Holds a degree in Computer Engineering (1992), a master's degree in Computer Science (1996) and a PhD in Computer Science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2003). She is a full professor at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF). She was a faculty member of the Department of Telecommunications Engineering until May 2009 and has since been a faculty member of the Institute of Computing. She is a CNPq level 1D DT productivity fellow and a Scientist of Our State (CNE) fellow by FAPERJ. She was a Young Scientist of Our State (JCNE) fellow from 2009-2011 by FAPERJ. She has been a member of the Board of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) since 2023. She is a member of the Board and the Technical Module of the Brazilian Digital Terrestrial TV System Forum (SBTVD). She has been vice-coordinator of the Special Committee on Multimedia Systems and the Web (CE-WebMedia) at SBC since 2023. She was vice-coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Computing at UFF, evaluated with a concept 6 by CAPES, from 2017 to 2021, and was also coordinator of the Graduate Course in Computer Systems Technology at UFF from 2014 to 2019. She was coordinator of the Special Committee on Computing Applied to Healthcare (CE-CAS) at SBC from 2017 to 2019. She founded the MídiaCom Lab at UFF in 2003 with a focus on research in computer networks and multimedia (www.midiacom.uff.br) and has been one of the lab's coordinators ever since. She founded the e-Health Lab at UFF for research and innovation in digital healthcare. Her areas of interest are multimedia, mulsemedia, computer networks, wireless networks, smart grids, Internet of Things, interactive digital television and digital healthcare. She has proposed NCL 4.0, adopted for the Future Brazilian TV 3.0 Digital TV system and also participated in the development of the NCL - Nested Context Language - adopted as ABNT NBR 15606-2 standard in the GINGA middleware of the Brazilian Digital TV System and as an international recommendation of ITU-T H.761 for IPTV services.
