Birthplace: Brazil

Leticia Magalhaes is a dual bachelor's in Physics and Engineering Physics with emphasis on Optoelectronics, and is an Applied Physics master?s student at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). In 2019 she was a Photonic Design Intern at Corning Incorporated in Corning, NY, USA. She has experience with optical forces, Brillouin scattering, and photonic design. She is currently researching means to design light-sound interactions via hybrid material interfaces in optical cavities. More generally, her research focuses on investigating how light interacts with sound and its surrounding media, aiming to pave the way for solution of milestones within the photonics industry. Leticia is absolutely passionate about optics and photonic design, since she sees optical technologies as a playground of opportunities for re-inventing the technological setting, pushing the boundaries between reality and science fiction. Leticia has won first place at the 2021 Optical Society Innovation School, the Scientific Merit prize at the 2017 PIBIC Congress at UNICAMP, an Honorable Mention at the 2018 Sao Paulo School of Advanced Science and an Honorable Mention at the 2016 PIBIC Congress at UNICAMP.
