Graduation at Ciências Marinhas from Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1989) and doctorate at Enginheria Química, Universidad de Cádiz (1995). Has experience in Oceanografy, focused on environmental quality assessment of fresh and sea water ecosystems. Main subjects: Pollution, Weight-of-evidence, global change, acidification CO2, biomarkers, ecotoxicology, accidental spills (oil, mining etc.), dredged material management. Recently the use of WOE in marine acidification is the main propose of the research conducted.Dr DelValls holds the position of Full Professor of physical chemistry (Catedrático de Universidad) at the Faculty of Sea and Environmental Sciences, University of Cádiz. Nowadays he is the Senior Scientist and professor leading on Ecotoxicology, Oceanography and Environmental Science Technology at the Universidade de Santa Cecilia, Santos, Brazil.He is the coordinator and leader of the UNESCO UNITWIN WiCop network belonging to the UNESCO Chair program and depending on Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission at UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO).He has lead the Research Group Contamination and adverse biological effects in aquatic ecosystems at Regional Government of Andalucia (Spain) during the last 15 years.He was leading the research in ecotoxicology and marine environment in the Baltic Floating University (Russian State Hydrometeorological University, UNESCO Facility) from 1998 till 2015He was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sea and Environmental Sciences at the University of Cádiz from 1997 to 2008.He was postdoc and visiting researcher at the Marine Physical Laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (University of California, San Diego) (1995-1997).An internationally known Researcher at Oceanography, marine ecotoxicology and environmental sciences, Dr DelValls has made an important contribution to the assessment of environmental impact in aquatic ecosystems under different research initiatives. He has more than 200 peer-reviewed research publications included in JCR/SCI (Web of Science, ISI). He has an H-index of 38 (Scopus) and higher than 40 at Google Scholar. He has coordinated and leadered more than 50 research and academic projects externally funded either by public and private institutions, participating in more than 100He has over 25 years' experience in coordinating international and national research programs across a number of scientific disciplines. He has supervised more than 60 Master students, 30 Doctoral students and 15 Postdoctoral fellows from more than 20 different countries. He was awarded with the Regional Excellence academic award Andalucia moving with Europe for excellence in Higher Education postgraduate studies (coordination Erasmus Mundus from 2011 to 2016).Dr. DelValls has served on numerous national and international committees and boards and has forged strong links with a range of industry and stakeholder organizations. He has also advised various national, international and multinational governmental and non-governmental organizations, including research funding agencies.Dr. DelValls has contributed as visiting professor to the training of graduate and post-graduate students at several other Universities around the world: Federal University of the State of Sao Paulo, (BR), University of Santa Cecilia (BR); University of Ningbo, (CN); University of Bologna (IT), University of Algarve, (PT); University of Aveiro (PT), University Nova of Lisbon (PT), several Universities at Spain (University of Cantabria, University of Granada, University of Seville, Politechnical University of Madrid, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, University of the Basque Country (SP), University of Bergen,He has been awarded twice (2006 2008) with the National Prize issued by the Ministry of Presidency in Spain to fight against contamination and pollution in marine and aquatic ecosystems.
