Luana Moraes

Holds a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the Universidade Federal de Alfenas (2017) and a Ph.D. from the Programa de Pós-Graduação Interunidades em Biotecnologia at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP, 2024). During her Ph.D., she was a FAPESP fellow and received a BEPE grant to develop part of her research at the School of Biosciences, University of Surrey (UK), focusing on genetic editing of BCG for the development of vaccines against bovine tuberculosis (20222023).She was a CAPES fellow under the Science Without Borders program, completing a sandwich undergraduate program in Biotechnology at Missouri Western State University (USA, 20142015). She worked as a trainee in veterinary vaccine production at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. (Saint Joseph, Missouri, 2015) and interned in the development of recombinant vaccines against leishmaniasis at the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Miami (2015), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pirouz Daftarian.She conducted research on the application of chitosan nanoparticles for immunomodulation in the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of Microorganisms at UNIFAL-MG (2016). Currently, she works as a project manager at the startup BCGene, founded by Dr. Luciana Cezar de Cerqueira Leite (Instituto Butantan), contributing to the implementation of a new veterinary vaccine based on recombinant BCG.
