Birthplace: Brazil

PhD Willian Garcia Birolli graduated in Industrial Chemistry with emphasis on quality management at the University of São Paulo (USP), from 2007 to 2011. At the same time, he received a scholarship for undergraduate research at the Laboratory of Organic Physical Chemistry of the Institute of Chemistry of São Carlos (IQSC), where he published in national and international scientific events participating in projects of physicochemical modifications in polysaccharides. He was trained in quality management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and GLP. He also integrated the institute's junior company, IQSC JUNIOR, being associated with the quality management board. During 2011, he completed a traineeship at BRASKEM SA, where he remained as a temporary worker in early 2012 developing analytical methods for thermoplastics. From 2012 until 2014, he received a scholarship from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) for a master's degree in chemistry at IQSC/USP at the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, where he carried out studies on the biodegradation of agrochemicals. Between 2014 and 2018 he held a doctorate in the same research group, however, conducting studies on enzymatic promiscuity in aldol reactions. Works that during the year of 2016 were developed at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), an unit of the University of Lisbon (Portugal), in the form of a partial doctorate abroad. From 2015 to 2020 he attended a graduation in chemistry education at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). From 2018 to 2021, he began his postdoctoral studies at the Laboratory of Micromolecular Microbiology of Microorganisms (LABIOMMI) also at UFSCar, focusing on bioremediation methods for agrochemicals. Since 2021, he has been carrying out a post-doctoral degree within the project Cancer and Rural Workers: a Cohort Study (RUCAN study) at the Molecular Oncology Research Center of the Hospital de Amor in collaboration with the Chromatography Group of the IQSC-USP.
