Professor in the Department of History at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP). He holds a PhD in History from the University of Porto, Portugal (2017). In 2024, he served as Professor in the Department of History at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). Between 2018 and 2019, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of History at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Humanities of the University of São Paulo USP/FFLCH, funded by FAPESP (grant no. 18/02259-5). In 2019, he was also a visiting researcher affiliated with the Chinese Studies Group in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). Since 2017, he has been an Integrated Researcher at the Transdisciplinary Research Centre Culture, Space and Memory (CITCEM), based at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. At the same institution, from 2019 to 2024, he was a researcher with REMA Research Management Science Communication Hub, employed through the Institutional Scientific Employment Stimulus Programme (CEECinst2018) of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Since 2021, he has been a researcher in the project RUTTER Making the Earth Global, based at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and funded by the European Research Council (ERC grant agreement no. 833438). Between 2022 and 2023, he also took part as a researcher in the project Local2Global: Building a Global World: Migrants across the Atlantic, based at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto and funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (UIDB/04059/2020). From 2018 to 2023, he was a member of the research network of the project Atlantic Italies. Economic and Cultural Entanglements (15th19th Centuries), based at the University of Zurich and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (176784/SNSF Professorships).His research interests encompass topics related to Early Modern History, Global History, Colonial History, History of Science and the History of Knowledge, with a particular focus on European presence in South and Southeast Asia. Within these fields, he has long been dedicated to studying the dynamics of knowledge production and circulation between Asia and Europe. His areas of specialisation include the Social History of Medicine, the History of the Natural Sciences, the History of the Portuguese Empire, the History of India, and the geographical spaces surrounding the South China Sea during the Early Modern period. In addition to these themes, he has worked on topics related to the history of knowledge production and circulation between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic through the activities of informal and self-organised agent networks.
