João Arthur Pompeu Pavanelli

I graduated in Biology at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). I had a grant to work on rural extension in the Department of Plant Production of the Agronomic Sciences Faculty to work with the Agroecology Group "Timbó" and the Rosa Luxemburg Popular Education School. I also had a CAPES grant at the Education Department and my undergraduate thesis was in the Department of Botanic, in the field of remote sensing of savannah vegetation and landscape ecology. I worked in the Giramundo Mutuando Institute as GIS expert and rural extensionist with focus on agroecological development at watershed and farm scales. I am specialist in Peasant Education and Agroecology (Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas - FEAGRI/UNICAMP). My master's thesis was in Remote Sensing at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), with focus on land cover and land use mapping with the integration of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite images. Recently, I defended my PhD thesis in Earth System Science at INPE, in the field of modelling food security, land use and ecosystem services as part of the DEVIL Project (Delivering food security on limited land). During my doctorate, I was granted by CAPES an internship at BC3 (Klima Aldaketa Ikergai / Basque Centre for Climate Change). In 2020, I worked as researcher on landscape fragmentation of the Cerrado and as consultant in the evaluation of undergoing climate policies (WRI Brasil).
