Miguel Roberto Jorge was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the "Paulista" School of Medicine (EPM) of the Federl University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) from 1986 to 2019, where he developed numerous activities such as teaching, research, extension and administration. He has had important universitary positions and directed services, courses and programs. He graduated in Medicine at the EPM in 1976, completed the Medical Residence in Psychiatry also at the EPM in 1978, got his Ph.D. in Psychopharmacology from EPM in 1986, carried out a post-doctorate period at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh in 1989-1990 and got a full-professorship title ("Livre-Docência") in Clinical Psychiatry at the UNIFESP in 1996. His scientific production started in the area of substance abuse and later on focused in psychiatric diagnosis and classification, mainly on standardized instruments and cultural aspects. Besides diagnosis and classification, his research interest also included stigma related to mental disorders and discrimination against people with mental disorders, in collaboration with international institutions. At the EPM/UNIFESP, Professor Miguel Roberto Jorge was Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry (1991-1994) and of the Section on Clinical Psychiatry (1996-2008). He has directed the Medical Residency Program in Psychiatry (1991-1994) and was a member ot the Selection Committee for the all Residency Programs of the University from 2004 to 2008. He was also Director of the Post-Graduation Program on Psychiatry and Medical Psychology (2002-2005) and has acted as advisor to 11 master and 10 PhD students. Professor Miguel Roberto Jorge was the Director of the Psychiatric Internship Program from 1997 to 2008 and was personally responsible for a weekly full afternoon of activities with the students at the psychiatric ward from 1997 to 2011. He was the Chairman of the General Internship Committee (2001-2006) and was the Academic Director of the UNIFESP Medical School from May 2006 to September 2008 when he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the UNIFESP Rector. As the UNIFESP Dean for Undergraduate Studies from 2009 to 2013, he was responsible for the consolidation of more than 30 new undergraduate courses created in the previous years in 6 different campi. He was the Chairman of the UNIFESP Committee of Ethics in Research from 2014 to 2020. Besides private activities in clinical psychiatry and psychotherapy, Professor Miguel Roberto Jorge has had important positions in medical societies such as President of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (1998-2001) and member of the Executive Committee of the World Psychiatric Association (2005-2011). He was also a member of the World Health Organization's Panel of Experts on Mental Health (1994-2019). Professor Miguel Roberto Jorge was the Director of International Affairs of the Brazilian Medical Association (2008-2014) and a member of its Executive Committee from 2014 to 2020. He was Chair of the Social-Medical Affairs Committee (2015-2018) and President of the World Medical Association (2019-2020).
