Gina Monge Aguilar is a mixed-race Latin American woman, a migrant, and a single mother of three daughters. She is a professor, actress, performer, and theatre director. She holds a PhD and a Masters degree in Performing Arts: Theatre Pedagogy and Theatre Artist Training from the University of São Paulo; a specialization in Speech-Language Pathology: Voice from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo; a bachelors degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations; and a bachelors degree in Dramatic Arts, both from the University of Costa Rica.She is currently a professor and head of the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Campinas. Her work focuses primarily on the following areas: body-voice for the performing artist, theatre pedagogy, and Latin American theatricalities, especially Black and Indigenous forms.For the past six years, she has coordinated the project In Search of Latin American Theatres, which has enabled exchanges with artists and master practitioners of Latin American popular culture. She is the official representative in RED CITU, a Latin American network of university theatre schools dedicated to sharing research in practice-as-research (investigación-creación).
