Vitor holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2003), a master's degree in Ecology and Conservation from the Federal University of Paraná (2006), and a PhD in Zoology from the University of São Paulo (2011). He also undertook postdoctoral projects at the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo (2014), another at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA (2016), and another at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (2017-18). He is an adjunct professor in the Department of Biology and Zoology and a professor/advisor in the Graduate Program in Zoology, both at the Institute of Biosciences of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, where he also curates the institution's Ornithological Collection. He is also the director-general of the Brazilian Committee for Ornithological Records; elected member of the fiscal council of the Brazilian Ornithological Society (2024-2025), of which he was also secretary (2005-2007) and member of the deliberative council (2020-2023); member of the Working Group on Avian Nomenclature (WGAN) of the International Ornithologists' Union; technical consultant on nomenclature of the South American Checklist Committee (SACC/IOU); elective member of the American Ornithological Society; and associate researcher at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (Philadelphia, USA). His main activities include taxonomy, systematics and biogeography of neotropical birds, zoological nomenclature, and ornithological inventories. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
