He has a degree in Physics from the Universidad de La Laguna (Spain, 2010), a Masters in Physics from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (Spain, 2011) and a PhD in Physics from the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (Spain, 2014). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University (USA, 2014-2019) and a visitor at the Max Planck Institute for Complex Systems (Germany, 2011) and at the Smithsonian Institute for Conservation Biology (USA, 2012). Since 2022 he is a Pesquisador IV (tenured researcher) at IFT-UNESP and associated researcher at ICTP- South American Institute for Fundamental Research (São Paulo). He is an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2021), external faculty at the Princeton Center for the Physics of Biological Function (Princeton, USA), and a Simons Associate at Abdus Salam ICTP (Trieste, Italy). He was selected at the 3 Public Research Call of the Serrapilheira Institute (2020). Has experience in the area of Statistical Physics with applications in Ecology and Evolution. So far, a large part of his research is dedicated to the study of ecological and evolutionary processes in microbial communities and the formation of self-organized structures in ecosystems with different characteristic scales, from bacterial biofilms to arid ecosystems. His work was featured in prestigious international journals, such as Physical Review Letters (editor's suggestion) and Science (journal cover). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
