Gianni Masaki Tanaka Portela is a researcher at the University of Campinas (Unicamp). He completed the Lic. course in Mathematics at the State University of Para (Uepa) in 2006 and the B.S., M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses in Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Para (UFPA) in 2007, 2009 and 2015, respectively. He worked as a mathematics teacher in 2008 and, from 2010 to 2012, as an electrical engineer in the Brazilian public service. He has been awarded the 2016 CAPES Thesis Award in the Engineering IV area (Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering) and has experience with scientific research at the postdoctoral level at the Federal University of Para and at the University of Campinas, as well as at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan). His current research interests include devices for applications in integrated photonics, like switches, isolators, circulators, power dividers and multifunctional devices.
