Patricia Maria Vanzella

Patrícia Vanzella graduated from the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She completed her PhD in Piano/Chamber Music at the Catholic University of America and postdoctoral research in the graduate program in Information Engineering at the Federal University of ABC. From 1993 to 2017, she was a faculty member in the Department of Music at the University of Brasília. In 2015, she implemented and has since coordinated the Neuroscience and Music project at the Federal University of ABC, where she is an Associate Professor at the Center for Mathematics, Computing, and Cognition (http://neuro.ufabc.edu.br/music). As a soloist, she performed with major symphonic ensembles in Brazil, including the OSESP, OSUSP, and the Claudio Santoro National Theater Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has performed in concerts across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. She has been conducting research projects in the cognitive neuroscience of music in collaboration with researchers from the University of Toronto, Harvard University, University of London, Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig), Federal University of São Paulo, Federal University of ABC, University of São Paulo, and the Brain Institute of the Israelite Hospital Albert Einstein in São Paulo. In parallel with her research activities, she is dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge through educational and cultural initiatives, such as the Synaptic Concerts and the Neuromusical Talks lecture series. She is the leader of the NEUROMÚSICA UFABC Research Group (CNPq) and president of the Brazilian Association for Cognition and Musical Arts (ABCM) for the 2023-2026 term (https://www.abcogmus.org).
