Extrasolar systems may have planets with inclined orbits, prograde or retrograde. In this project we will study formation mechanisms of extrasolar systems with planets in orbits with high relative inclinations. We will analyse the evolution of these systems due to dissipative effects, in particular capture and stability of resonant configurations.
Recent theoretical developments led to the identification of small bodies in retrograde resonances with the solar system planets. However, extra solar systems could have planets in retrograde configurations. In this study we will study the stability, viability and detectability of these extra solar systems.
Recently, the existence of retrograde coorbital configurations in the solar system has been confirmed: asteroid (514107) Ka'epaoka'awela that revolves around the sun in the same period as Jupiter but orbiting in the opposite direction.
