Marcelo Vaz is a PhD candidate and holds a bachelor's degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), with a double degree from the Université Jean Moulin Lyon III. In the academic sphere, he has been responsible for the pedagogical coordination of the Center for Banking Law (CDB) at the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo since August 2021, having also served as a member-researcher of the research group Law and Underdevelopment: the Furtadian Challenge (Law, Planning and Development), between March 2019 and February 2021, and member-coordinator of the Center for Financial and Capital Market Studies (CEM) between January 2021 and December 2023. He also carried out undergraduate research into the regulatory actions of the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) with support from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). He is interested in and conducts research on central banks, currency, financial regulation and legal sociology. Currently, at doctoral level, his research is focused on the intersection between law and macroeconomics, specifically analyzing the relationship between monetary policy and fiscal policy in the Brazilian context and its impact on the governance of monetary architecture.
