Dr. Henrik Bradtmüller is a physical chemist working at the interface of chemistry, materials science, and physics, with a research focus on the structural characterization and rational design of functional glass materials. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC) at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, where he develops interdisciplinary research programs combining advanced spectroscopy, materials synthesis, and computational modeling. Dr. Bradtmüller obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Leibniz Universität Hannover (Germany) in 2014 and completed both his M.Sc. (2016) and Ph.D. (2019) in Chemistry at the University of Münster (Germany). His doctoral work focused on structureproperty relationships in glasses and glass-ceramics using advanced solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Following his Ph.D., he held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Münster and at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), before joining the University of São Paulo as faculty in 2025. His research centers on uncovering the atomic-scale origins of macroscopic properties in complex amorphous materials. In particular, he investigates compositionstructureproperty relationships in oxide glasses, bioactive glasses, and glass-ceramics. His work integrates advanced solid-state NMR spectroscopy with complementary experimental techniques, molecular dynamics simulations, and emerging data-driven approaches such as machine learning to accelerate the rational design of new materials.A major focus of his current research is the development of next-generation bioactive glasses for biomedical applications, aiming to understand and control how composition and atomic-scale structure influence dissolution behavior, bioactivity, and therapeutic functionality. In parallel, he explores data-driven strategies for designing optical and functional glass systems by combining structural databases, computational modeling, and predictive algorithms.Dr. Bradtmüller has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals in materials chemistry and glass science and regularly collaborates with international research groups across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. His work contributes both to fundamental understanding of amorphous materials and to the development of advanced materials for biomedical and technological applications. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
