We will study recent problems in spin models of Statistical Mechanics, especially the continuity of spontaneous magnetization for the Ising model in dimensions d e 3, and the phase transition in planar random cluster models, with the aim to introduce the candidate to research directions in the area and prepare him for future graduate studies.
We will seek understand how chaos arises in an iterated function system (IFS), where each map is an expansion of the circle - which is known to be chaotic.
