Hae Yong Kim is an associate professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP). In the entrance exam, he ranked 3rd out of approximately 11,000 applicants to the Exact Sciences program at USP and secured 1st place in Computer Science. He graduated in 1988 with the highest average grade in the course. He holds a master's degree in Applied Mathematics (1992) and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering (1997), both from USP. His academic contributions include 58 indexed scientific articles accumulating 1,106 citations and an H-index of 12 (according to Web of Science); or 61 articles with 1555 citations and an H-index of 15 (according to Scopus). In addition, he has three granted patents. Dr. Kim's work has been recognized with several awards: 6th Petrobras Technology Award (2013) in Refining and Petrochemical Technology (Master's category). Best Paper in Image Analysis (2007) at the Pacific-Rim Symposium on Imaging and Video Technology.Thomson ISI Essential Science Indicators Hot Paper Award (2005) for publishing one of the top 0.1 percent most cited papers in Computer Science. Recently, his research has focused on the application of deep neural networks to computer vision challenges, particularly in medical imaging. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
