Medical Doctor (MD) by Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1984), master degree by Microbiologia from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1989) and PhD degree by Immunology from Universidade de São Paulo (1994). Post-doctorate by Center for Neurological Diseases, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, USA (1998-1999 and 2002-2003). Sabbatical Periods at Università di Bologna (UNIBO) in Bologna, Italy (2011), The Rockefeller University, New York, NY, USA (2016) and Instituto de Medicina Molecular (IMM), Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2022. Member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Society of Immunology (SBI - 2011-2013), of the Advisory Committees in Biological Sciences/Immunology of Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG - 2011-2013), Conselho de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq - 2013-2015) and it is now coordinator of the Sub-committee of Mucosal Immunology Nomenclature of IUIS (since 2019). She was President of the Brazilian Society of Immunology (SBI) in 2022-2023. Full professor at Departamento de Bioquímica e Imunologia, Instituto de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and member of the Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) since 2024. She was the Director de the Department of Science and Tecnology (Decit), SECTICS, Ministry of Health, Brazil (2023-2024) and has research experience in Immunology with focus on Mucosal Immunology and Immunosenescence.
