Thaís Cavalcante Torres Gama

I am currently a master's student at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), in the Molecular and Morphofunctional Biology program, in the area of #8203;#8203;Biochemistry. The project I am developing aims to find, in microorganisms prospected from Brazilian biodiversity, transporters with a preference for xylose, to optimize the use of lignocellulosic biomass and its conversion into high added value products. Acting as a Collaborating Researcher, I develop all the practical activities of the project at the National Laboratory of Biorenewables (LNBR), part of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), under the supervision of Dr. João Heitor Colombelli Manfrão Netto and Dr. Nadia Vieira Sampaio. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), after having also completed an internship at the National Laboratory of Biorenewables (LNBR). In this context, I developed a study on the impacts of long storage periods on the cell viability of a xylose-fermenting Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain, in addition to conducting experiments to understand its genetic stability. During my undergraduate studies, between 2022 and 2024, I was a Level 2 Technical Training Scholar of a FAPESP project, under the guidance of Dr. Sabrina Gabardo, which addressed the production of galactooligosaccharides (GOS) from Porungo cheese whey, culminating in the preparation of an article submitted for publication. I also graduated as an Environmental Technician from Etec Pedro Ferreira Alves (2017-2019), where I developed a work focused on the bioprospecting of bacteria antagonistic to the fungus Fusarium sp.
