Vasco Furtado is currently Director of Research and Innovation at the University of Fortaleza where he has been teaching for more than 30 years. He received his doctorate (1997) from the University of Aix-Marseille III, France and postdoctoral fellow (2007) at the Knowledge Systems Laboratory in Stanford, California, USA.Furtado has written more than 150 scientific articles in computing with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, working mainly on the following topics: multiagent simulation, semantic web, automatic learning and data mining. He has applied his researches in the area of #8203;#8203;Public Safety and Smart Cities. In addition to his academic experience, he has extensive experience in the public sector where he served as Technology Officer of the Public Security Secretariat of the State of Ceará (1997-2004), Consulting in Innovation (2008-2011) of the Foundation for Support of Science of the State of Ceará (FUNCAP) and more recently (2013-2016) as vice president and later president of the Science, Technology and Innovation of Fortaleza (CITINOVA).
