Birthplace: Brazil

Daniel is a biologist (Biological Sciences degree - Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, MT - 2009), has a masters degree (2011) and a doctoral degree (2015) in Agricultural Microbiology (Universidade Federal de Viçosa, MG), with one year Doctoral academic visitor at Rothamsted Research Institute (United Kingdom) under the supervision of Prof. Penny Hirsch and guidance of Prof. Marcos Tótola, funded by CAPES. During the doctorate, Daniel took part in the creation of the Brazilian Microbiome Project (BMP) (http://brmicrobiome.org) and wrote a thesis on "The compositional changes of soil microbial communities under crude oil contamination using high-throughput sequencing technologies". After his doctorate, Daniel worked for a year as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Biosystems Informatics and Genomics Group at René Rachou Research Center (CPqRR - Fiocruz - MG) and Instituto Tecnológico Vale (Belém - PA), under supervision of Dr. Guilherme Oliveira. In 2017, Daniel was invited to join the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology at Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMIC - CAS) in Prague (Czech Republic), led by the Dr. Petr Baldrian, where he worked as a bioinformatician for 1 year. After this period, he was hired as a bioinformatician at the Bioinformatics Core Facility at IMIC - CAS where he worked for 3 years. In 2021, he went back to Brazil to explore the microbial community of soils from various brazilian biomes and create the Brazilian Soils Microbiome Database (MICROBRSOILS) at ESALQ - USP, under the Junior Postdoc grant from CNPQ. In 2022, he was awarded with the Young Investigator Grant from FAPESP and runs the project for creating Artificial Intelligent Microbiome tools using the MICROBRSOILS at Instituto Biológico from the São Paulo Agency for Agribusiness Technology (IB - APTA). Moreover, he collaborates as a research advisor of the BMP, helping on the development of bioinformatic tools and generating human resources by presenting lectures and offering courses.
