CV Lattes ORCID

She holds a degree in Data Processing from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, 1977), a master's and a doctorate in Computer Science from UFRGS (in 1981 and 1994, respectively), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the International Computer Science Institute and E.O. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA, USA (1996). She has been a professor at UFRGS since 1980, currently serving as a Full Professor. She is also a Level 1C Research Fellow of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). In undergraduate teaching, she focuses on Information Visualization and Human-Computer Interaction. In research and graduate teaching, her current area is primarily Interactive Data Visualization. Her research interests include interactive data visualization, human-computer interaction, particularly in the context of information visualization techniques, interaction in 3D graphical applications and virtual reality, as well as the evaluation of visualization and interaction techniques. She has coordinated cooperation projects with groups at the University of Paul Sabatier (Toulouse - CAPES/COFECUB) and INRIA (Saclay and Rocquencourt - CNPq/INRIA) in France, as well as with the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL - CNPq/FNRS) in Belgium. She maintains ongoing collaboration with researchers at the University of Nice in France. Currently, she coordinates a network project involving over 45 researchers in Computing and Health fields (CIARS - Artificial Intelligence Applied to Health). She regularly participates in program committees for national and international events in her areas of expertise and has organized the SIBGRAPI Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image Processing of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) three times, now known as the SIBGRAPI Conference on Graphics, Patterns, and Images. In 2024, she received the Researcher Tribute Award for her contributions to this field in Brazil. Between 2000 and 2005, she was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FAPERGS) in the field of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computing, serving as coordinator for two terms. She was part of the CNPq Advisory Committee in Computer Science (CA-CC) from 2015 to 2018. In 2017, she participated in CAPESs triennial evaluation committee, and in 2022, the quadrennial evaluation committee for the Computing area. She is a member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), having served on its board from 2003 to 2009 and as president of the Special Committee on Computer Graphics and Image Processing from 1996 to 2000. Currently, she is a Counselor of the SBC and a member of the executive committee of CEGRAPI (Special Committee on Computer Graphics and Image Processing) at SBC. In university administration, she has served as head and deputy head of the Department of Applied Informatics at INF/UFRGS and as coordinator and deputy coordinator of the Graduate Program in Computing at INF/UFRGS. She was deputy director of the Institute of Informatics at UFRGS from 2011 to 2016 and director of the same Institute from 2016 to 2024. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
