Graduate in Medicine from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1990) and PhD in Biochemistry from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1994). He is currently Full Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Has experience in Medicine, focusing on Psychiatry, acting on Molecular Medicine, Neuropsychopharmacology and Neuromodulation.
