Professor at the Department of Pathology at the Centro Universitário Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (FMABC) and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), within the CAMO-net project. He is also a co-supervisor in the Graduate Program in Infectious Diseases and Global Health at FMUSP, as well as a co-supervisor in the Graduate Program in Chemistry at the University of São Paulo (USP). He holds a Bachelors degree in Biotechnology and a Masters degree in Industrial Biotechnology awarded by the University of Pavia (Italy). He obtained his PhD in Biotechnology, with a specialization in Microbiology, from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portugal), under the Marie Sk#322;odowska-Curie Actions program of the European Union. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Biological Safety of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Germany. His research experience spans Environmental Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Applied Microbiology, Biotechnology, and One Health, with a focus on bacterial resistance. His work primarily addresses the investigation of antibiotic resistance dissemination in the environment, microbiome characterization through bioinformatics analyses, determination of antibiotics and disinfectants in environmental matrices, and the development of portable technologies for rapid, on-site detection of bacterial resistance and other pathogens. He has also worked in the field of algal biorefineries and fermentative processes for the conversion of biomass into value-added chemicals, such as solvents and organic acids.
