Philipe de Freitas Melo is an associate professor at the Instituto de Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas (IEF) at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) - Campus Florestal. He holds a PhD in Computer Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), has a master's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and a degree in Information Systems from UFMG. He did an internship as a guest researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik-MPI-INF, Germany (2019-2020). He was a CAPES Undergraduate Sandwich Scholarship Abroad for the Science Without Borders program at the University of the Fraser Valley, Canada (2012-2013).He worked on researches related to misinformation on WhatsApp through the "Elections without Fake" project (2018-2022), linked to the Permanent Program to Combat Misinformation of the Superior Electoral Court. He has experience and interest in the field of Computer Science, with an emphasis on social computing, including artificial intelligence, data mining, sentiment analysis, hate speech and disinformation.
