Thiago José Cysneiros Cavalcanti Soares

Thiago J. Soares is an Assistant Professor and the coordinator of the Strategy Center at Insper Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa. His primary research focus is on understanding the nuances of how organizations manage their innovation processes and the strategies they adopt to enhance their innovation performance. In this context, he is particularly interested in the influence of inventors on firms' innovation strategies and outcomes.Thiagos current projects examine firms responses to changes in employee mobility patterns, divestment decisions, internal restructuring processes, performance failures, and governance structures. His research also explores the (often unintended) impacts of government incentives on innovation. As a secondary research stream, he investigates the circumstances under which academic knowledge transcends university boundaries and is applied by firms.He serves as a reviewer for FAPESP and academic journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and Management Science. He is also the Ambassador for South America in the STR division of the Academy of Management (2024-2027).Thiago was a member of the Working Group for the Analysis of CAPES' evaluation form for the 2025-2028 quadrennium and is part of the CAPES quadrennial evaluation committee for the 2021-2024 period, both in the field of Public and Business Administration, Accounting Sciences, and Tourism.His research has been published in journals such as the British Journal of Management, Industrial and Corporate Change, Technovation, and Technological Forecasting and Social Change.Before entering academia, he worked for many years as a requirements engineer in the German automotive sector.
