Barbara Ribeiro Alves Alencar

She holds a PhD from the Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (UFPE), with an emphasis on biotechnology and bioinformatics. Her research focuses on the characterization, processing and fractionation of lignocellulosic and starchy biomass for the production of biofuels such as 1G, 1.5G and 2G ethanol and biogas. She also has extensive experience in fermentation processes, both in laboratory and pilot-scale bioreactors, experimental planning and analytical techniques. She has co-coordinated and managed projects related to biodigestion and bioethanol. She was a partner in Biotec Inovações, a start-up focused on the sugar-energy sector, where she developed talents related to intellectual property, management and innovative thinking. She is certified in Yellow-Belt Lean Six Sigma, Project Risk Management and Bioprocess Modeling. She also collaborates in research related to biochar and bio-oil for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions in biorefineries. She is currently a collaborating researcher at LNBR/CNPEM in the area of lignin valorization to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
