He is a full professor at the Federal University of Lavras in Biometry, Forest Inventory, and Management since 1995. He has extensive experience in the area of Forest Resources and Forest Engineering. He enjoys teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in Forest Engineering. In administration, he has been Department Head at the Federal University of Paraíba, where he began his career, and also at the Federal University of Lavras. He has served as Coordinator of Stricto Sensu Graduate Programs in Forest Engineering, Coordinator of Latu Sensu courses in Planted Forest and Native Forest Management, and as Pro-Rector for Research, Administration, Planning and Management, Vice Chancellor, and Rector for two terms. In research, he works in two main areas: Forest Production and Biodiversity Management of Forests and Territory Management. He leads a research group registered with CNPq in Biometry, Forest Inventory, and Management. He has coordinated numerous projects in planted forests on growth and production models, forest management, and inventory for species of the genera Eucalyptus and Pinus, among others. In native forests, he is one of the pioneers of research on management for multiple uses of Cerrado vegetation and has worked on major research programs in the Amazon region, notably the Integrated System for Control of Forest Products in the Amazon. He coordinated the Inventory, Mapping, and Monitoring of Native Flora and Reforestation in the State of Minas Gerais and the Ecological Zoning of the States of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. He initiated and developed the technical and scientific alternative for research that made the management of Candeia possible on a completely sustainable basis. Today, these technologies are a reality for several companies in the country and for farmers, especially in the State of Minas Gerais. He participated in the development of the Rural Environmental Registry Platform (Cadastro Ambiental Rural - CAR) in its various nuances. Despite the grandiosity of the other projects, this last one is undoubtedly the broadest he has executed, fully contemplating the entire Brazilian territory. The focus of the project and studies and developments are centered on environmental conservation and preservation, agricultural production, and high positive impact on society. In addition to these, several other relevant projects have been developed in the areas of planted forests and native forests throughout his career. He has been a continuous researcher in CNPq's Productivity in Research since 1983, having been a Researcher 1A for more than 10 years. He was a member and coordinator of the Agricultural Sciences Chamber of FAPEMIG; a member of CNPq's Forest Resources Advisory Council; a member of the Biodiversity Chamber of the State of Minas Gerais Environmental Policy Council; a member of the Permanent Plots Network Advisory Committee for Brazil; president of the forum of Public Institutions of Technical and Higher Education of the State of Minas Gerais, second vice president of the National Association of Rectors of Federal Universities, and other relevant representations with other public institutions. He is the author of 18 books. He has published a total of 606 scientific papers, including 221 in national and international specialized journals and 87 chapters in thematic books on Dendrometry, Forest Inventory, and Management, as well as several others with a multidisciplinary connotation; 385 works in congresses, 58 texts in newspapers and interviews, 51 patents and registrations, including 12 computer programs. During his career, he has supervised and co-supervised 410 students, including 71 in the Master's program and 19 in the Doctorate program, 2 Post-doctorates, 279 in scientific initiation, final papers, and specialization. He has participated in more than 218 technical-scientific events. He has won over 60 awards at the state, national, and international levels. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
