https://bit.ly/BCortes-researchgate Bruno Cortes received Bachelor's (2014), Master's (2017), and Ph.D. (2021) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, posses a Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical/Industrial Automation from the Federal Center of Technological Education of Minas Gerais, and has recently completed a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship at UNICAMP (2025). From 2012 to 2013, he developed the operational planning of hydrothermal systems with wind generation for FAPEMIG. Next, he participated in the ANP-PETROBRAS Human Development Program, receiving training in industrial electrical systems, besides researching the harmonic effects in induction motors. In 2016, he joined PETROBRAS as part of the electrical maintenance specialist program, providing specialized technical support for offshore facilities. In 2017, he finished his Masters dissertation on modeling and analysis of electrical submersible pump systems, followed by an MBA in Financial Management (2017-2019) at FGV-EESP, where he presented strategic and financial planning for implementing distance education in a private institution. Following, he earned his Ph.D. in early 2021, contributing to visionary topics for INERGE-INCT: (i) developing reduction methods for Distribution Systems (DSs) applications; (ii) developing methods and models to determine the voltage stability limit and multiple solutions in unbalanced DSs; (iii) creating a suitable methodology for real-time assessment of the consumers' responsibility to the grid unbalance, applying it on the DSTATCOM's controllers to prevent financial penalties. During his Postdoc (2021-2025), he delved deeper into managing and integrating grid-edge technologies through collaborative works from ANEEL-CPFL Energia at UNICAMP, key contributing to the execution of multiple projects to: (i) developing methodologies for the stochastic allocation of electric vehicle charging stations; (ii) conceiving advanced control strategies for batteries; (iii) preparing a detailed report that proposes revisions to regulatory electrical losses treatment in DS; (iv) establishing analytical models to quantify the technical impacts of unbalanced photovoltaics. He also advanced transformer management methodologies for utilities and smart campuses after incorporating statistical models, regulatory techno-economic analyses, and machine learning algorithms to (i) optimize the transformer park, (ii) analyze electricity usage patterns, (iii) assess the impacts of adopting representative generation profiles to estimate the photovoltaic generation installed in a given region, and (iv) estimate electrical losses of transformers in DS. Bruno's expertise spans voltage security, power quality enhancement, grid-edge technology integration, power electronics control, financial management, and data analytics, driving innovative and sustainable solutions for energy and power sectors.
