Rocharles Cavalcante Fontenele

He holds a Degree in Dentistry from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), completed in 2016, a Masters degree (2018), and a PhD (2023) in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the Piracicaba Dental School, University of Campinas (FOP/UNICAMP). During his PhD, he completed a 12-month research internship at the OMFS-IMPATH Research Group at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium, funded by CAPES. After completing his PhD, he undertook a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at KU Leuven under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Reinhilde Jacobs, during which he also served as co-supervisor of PhD students at the OMFS-IMPATH Research Group. He is currently a Doctor Professor in the Department of Stomatology, Public Health, and Forensic Dentistry (DESCOL) at the Ribeirão Preto School of Dentistry, University of São Paulo (FORP-USP). His research focuses on Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, with emphasis on artificial intelligence-driven automatic segmentation of dentomaxillofacial structures in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, 2D and 3D imaging diagnosis, image quality assessment, and artifact analysis in CBCT imaging. He serves as a reviewer for national and international journals and has published over 75 scientific articles in high-impact journals. Throughout his academic career, he has received prestigious awards from the European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology, the Digital Dentistry Society, and the Brazilian Society for Dental Research.
