Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades (EACH)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL), a Masters in Biology (Ecology) from the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA), and a Ph.D. in Biology (Ecology), also from INPA. His doctoral dissertation examined contemporary changes in the Amazon, epidemiological dynamics (with a focus on the COVID-19 pandemic, the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, and emerging epidemiological risks in the Amazon), impacts on Indigenous peoples, and climate change and its effects on biodiversity. He conducts research and science outreach initiatives on the influence of human activities on the structure, dynamics, climate, and biodiversity of the Amazon and Atlantic Forest, as well as the impacts on traditional populations living within these biomes. His goal is to minimize the damage caused by landscape change, agricultural expansion, and climate change on people, fauna, and ecosystem services, and to reduce the risk of new pandemics arising from zoonotic spillover events driven by environmental degradation. His research focuses on the drivers of deforestation, aiming to inform public policies that mitigate land conflicts stemming from deforestation and the invasion of protected areas and traditional communities, especially in Indigenous Lands and Conservation Units in the Amazon. This work earned him the Chico Mendes Courage Award in 2023, granted by the Sierra Club. He is currently an official collaborating researcher with the Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System (CENSIPAM) of the Ministry of Defense. He serves as an editor for the scientific journal Discover Sustainability (Springer Nature). (H-Index: Web of Science = 19; Google Scholar = 23). Reuters Researcher ID: D-2469-2017.
