Graduated in Natural History at Universidade Santa Úrsula (1971) and doctorate in Sciences (Microbiology) at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1976). Developed a post-doctoral period in (1) Carbohydrate Chemistry, using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (1977/78-National Research Council-Canada); (2) Glycobiology (1978/1979-Department of Biochemistry, University of California, Berkeley, USA). Visiting Researcher, 1987-1988-INSERM, France, in Protein Chemistry. In 2011/2012 developed a scientific colaboration (CAPES, Brazil) on the characterization of glycophenotypes by Mass Spectroscopy. Awarded the prizes: (1997) International Research Scholar, Howard Hughes Medical Institute; (2001) National Order of Scientific Merit - Commander, Federal Government; (2004) L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science, Paris, France; (2007) Biology TWAS Award; (2011) Special Tribute Featured Medical Sciences -120 years Jornal do Brasil, Academia Brasileira de Letras. Currently: Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; Titular Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences; Titular Member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS); Member of the MAC (Membership Advisory Committee) of TWAS. From 2016 to 2021 Regional Vice-President (RJ) of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Scientific experience in the área of Glycobiology and Biochemistry of Microorganisms. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
