Bachelor (BSC) in Applied Mathematics by the University of São Paulo (1980), master (MSC) in Applied Mathematics by the University of São Paulo (1984), Doctor (Dr. rer.nat.) in Applied Mathematics by the Universität Bonn (1989). He is currently associate Professor from the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo. He has been head of the Applied Mathematics Department from 2000 to 2004. Has acted as vice-Director of "Estação Ciência" (a science Museum) from the University of São Paulo from 2003 to 2005. Has been the general coordinator of the course "Ciências Moleculares" (Molecular Sciences, an interdisciplinary program) from the University of São Paulo from 2008 to 2012. Has coordinated the graduate program in Applied Mathematics from the University of São Paulo from 2012 to 2016. Has large experience in Applied Mathematics, working mainly with numerical methods for the solution of Partial Differential Equations, multigrid methods, finite difference and spectral methods for global Atmospheric Models. Has contributed in the area of Parallelism and High-Performance Computing of Meteorological models, cooperating frequently with the brazilian center for weather prediction and climate research (CPTEC-INPE).
