Rafael Menezes de Oliveira

Holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. degrees in Physics from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil (2004) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2012). Served as a postdoctoral researcher in two occasions, at Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (2012) and at Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (2017), where he holds a position as an assistant professor since 2018. He has worked at the oil and gas indrustry at the Halliburton Technology Center (2013-2016) and coordinates the Programa Interdepartamental de Óleo de Gás da PUC-Rio, as part of Programa de Recursos Humanos, ANP. Conducts applied research in enhanced oil recovery and cimenting of oil well, and has experience in the following areas of fluid dynamics: Displacements in Hele-Shaw cells and porous media, computational fluid dynamics, magnetic fluids, rheology, hydrodynamic instabilities of fluid interfaces, pattern formation and adhesion phenomena.
