Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Ph.D. in Sciences from the Graduate Program in Genetics at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School - University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP). Her area of interest is molecular biology of reproductive development, focusing on Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) and Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco). Her Ph.D. research was conducted at the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory (USP-RP) and the Hormonal Control of Plant Development Laboratory (ESALQ-USP), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maria Helena de Souza Goldman. During her Ph.D., Vanessa spent six months at Bielefeld University (Germany) where, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dorothee Staiger, she adapted the RNA Immunoprecipitation (RIP) protocol for N. tabacum proteins. Vanessa holds a Masters in Sciences from the same Genetics program (FMRP-USP) and a Bachelors degree and teaching certification in Biological Sciences from the School of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP-USP). During her undergraduate studies, she participated in the Science without Borders program at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), and was a CNPq-funded Scientific Initiation scholar. She has experience in genetic transformation of S. lycopersicum, N. tabacum, and Nicotiana benthamiana; BY-2 cell synchronization; yeast two-hybrid screening; BiFC (Bimolecular Fluorescence Complementation); qualitative and quantitative PCR; plasmid DNA extraction from Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae; electroporation-based transformation of Escherichia coli and Agrobacterium tumefaciens; protein extraction; Western blotting; optical, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy.
