Virginia de Almeida Bessa is a coolaborating researcher and permanent professor at the Music Postgaduate Program of Unicamp, where she coordinates the research projetc titled "Transatlantic musical connections: musical theatre touring companies in São Paulo (1914-1934)", funded by FAPESP. She has a B.A. in History and Music, a M.A. in Social History and a double PhD in Social History and Romanic Studies from University of São Paulo and Paris Nanterre Unviersity. From 2023 to 2024, she was postdoctoral fellow from CNPq at the HIstory Department of the University of São Paulo. From 2016 to 2021, she was postdoctoral fellow from Fapesp at IEB-USP, including a one year post-doctoral internship at EHESS/Mondes Américains, in Paris (2019-2020). Her work focuses in History and Music, especially on the following subjects: Popular Music, Cultural History, Musical Theater, Sound Culture, History of São Paulo. She is the author of the book "A escuta singular de Pixinguinha" (Alameda Editorial, 2010), awarded with the Funarte Prize of Music Criticism, and co-editor of the book "Histórias das Músicas no Brasil" (Anppom, 2023).
